The Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) - Instructor Course conducted by the BREMSS Regional Office is a hybrid course consisting of three components:

  • Online, self-paced course work that must be completed prior to the in-person classroom session
  • Classroom session to include instructional assessments
  • Driving session to include the setup and implementation of the EVOC module B driving course

The coursework includes an overview of the EVOC Provider and Refresher courses including familiarization with the NHTSA Instructor Guide and Participant Manual as they relate to the EVOC Module A component, Module B demonstration and practice, and an overview of Module C and why it is important.

 

Session 1:
EVOC Instructor Course Self-Paced eLearning Session

An overview of the EVOC Instructor Course. Topics include 

  • Course Resources,
  • The Alabama Code,
  • Module A Refresher,
  • Adult Learning,
  • Course Overview,
  • and Conducting the Course.

This session must be completed prior to attending the classroom session. 

Session 2:
EVOC Instructor Course Classroom Session

All instructor candidates will meet for the classroom session located in the BREMSS classroom. During this portion of the course we will answer questions from the self-paced session and cover the overall admistrative process. 

During the classroom session of the EVOC Instructor Course, each instructor candidate will deliver a lecture based on an assigned topic from the EVOC module A course. 

Each candidate should prepare a presentation ultilizing the EVOC course materials. Each teaching session should be at least 20 minutes in duration and not exceed 30 minutes. The teaching session will be followed by a debriefing session in which the class will discuss the lesson material and evaluate the candidates performance. 

Session 3:
EVOC Instructor Course Driving Course Session

All candidates will meet at a predetermined location to complete instruction concerning the EVOC driving course exercises. The emphasis will be on setup of an official course using the exercises outlined in the instructor guide. 

During the driving course session of the EVOC Instructor Course, all instructor candidates will participate in setting up the Module B Driving Course. Each instructor candidate will select a driving course exercise in which they will act as the lead instructor in setup of the exercise.

All candidates will participate in all exercises and are encouraged to offer suggestions and assistance to the candidate in the role of lead instructor.
